Have you considered sending a thank you email after a phone interview with recruiter? Many a time, when people give phone interviews, they are skeptical about whether or not they got the job. Why? Because the interview didn't happen face to face and the chances can seem a bit bleak. But, that doesn't mean you shouldn't consider sending an email just to tip the scale in your favor. Rules for Writing the Email

First and foremost, don't mistake a thank you email with a follow-up email. The latter is sent after a face-to-face interview, and its purpose is to let the recruiter or interviewer know that you are still awaiting his/her reply. As for the thank you email:
  • Make sure that it is sent right away. You need to be careful as to not delay it and send it in less than 24 hours' time.
  • Do not, under any circumstances, make this an epic email. The length of the email should be short and to the point. No one likes to read long emails, especially not the interviewer. He/she is a busy person.
  • Always add a personal touch to it. Remember the name of the interviewer or recruiter and address the email to him/her, along with the organization. This tells the recruiter that you were paying attention.
  • You need to sound genuine and not overconfident in the email. The tone you use in the email can be clearly heard and that can make a huge difference in you getting the job.
  • Don't send the first copy. Always write 2―3 drafts, proofread it 4―5 times, and then send it. You don't want to make any spelling and/or grammar errors; it looks unprofessional.

Email Subject Line: Thank You - (job position you were interviewed for)

Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name,

In this first paragraph, remind the interviewer that he/she had taken your interview over the phone for a particular position in their organization. Thank him/her for giving you the opportunity to do a phone interview and that you are interested in the position in question.

In the second paragraph, mention that you can be a good inclusion to the organization and that the experience and commitment you'll be bringing in can be beneficial for the company. Here, do make sure that you don't sound pompous or overconfident. You can even highlight some of your strengths that can be useful in the position you are trying to fill.

In the third paragraph, state that you would appreciate if the recruiter gave you the opportunity to have a face-to-face meeting. And, it was a grateful of him to let you discuss your educational and professional background in detail.
