When you feel good about an interview, it’s probably a good sign that things went well. Congrats! Now it’s time to write the “Thank You email after interview”.

Job candidates often forget about the Thank You email part of the process. If they did well and made a great impression, they might think that’s enough. But a Thank You email can be what sets you apart from other candidates.

Would you like to write for us? Well, we're looking for good writers who want to spread the word. Get in touch with us and we'll talk...

So, if you’re struggling with how to write a great email, we’re here to help. Here are some great tips and ideas that will help you move onto the next step in the process.

Thank You Email After Interview Template

A Thank You email is more than just a quick message you send to a hiring manager. It’s crucial that you take the time to craft something thoughtful that stands out. After all, this is just another window into who you are and how you communicate.

There are a few key points you want to touch on. They include:

  • A “Thank you for taking the time” type of message
  • Remind them why you’re interested in the job and how you showcase your compatibility with the role
  • Throw in a comment about a topic you discussed (like loving the same sandwich spot or marketing campaign)
  • Include your portfolio or other samples of your work
  • Ask about the next steps in the process

A great email will remind the hiring manager what they liked about you, how you stood out, and why you’re a good fit for the role.

Do Some Research

If you still don’t know where to start, it might be worth doing some research for templates on Google. Just keep in mind that these templates are only a starting point. You’ll still need to make them your own.

Still, many of them include the key points you need to touch upon, which makes it easier for you to stay on track.

Don’t Wait Too Long

You should send your Thank You email within 24 hours of the interview. But the sooner you send it, the better.

It’s also a great time to expand on the information you covered during the information. In some cases, the information you add to your email can help you move to the next step.

Send An Email to All Interviewers

Let's Work Together!

If you were part of an interview process where you met with several people, make sure to send a thank you to each of them. Sending out multiple emails is why it’s important to touch on a piece of your conversation, that way you can ensure that each email is unique.

If you don’t have an email for everyone on the team, don’t fret! First, speak to your contact and let them know you want to send some Thank You notes. If they ask you to forward your thanks to them, go ahead and do so! Not everyone is comfortable with giving the email of all their team members out to someone that isn’t hired yet.

A fantastic Thank You email can position you above other candidates also going through the hiring process. Spend time on it and put thought into it. You’ll be surprised by how much hiring managers appreciate it.
