A person with no experience can apply for an entry-level sales job with an objective that reads as follows: An effective communicator with an aptitude for sales having gained an insight into the industry through practical internships.
Whether to Include a Resume Objective
Although an objective can help create a positive impact and convey the intention of the job seeker, thus helping the prospective employer evaluate the candidate, there are times when an objective need not be included in resume. In certain situations, an objective may result in creating an unfavorable impact on employer. This may happen in following cases:
Sometimes, a person may be applying for more than one position in the same organization. In this case, stating a specific objective may result in limiting the options of the job seeker. Providing a general objective may seem like an option.
However, it may be sensible to do away with the objective so that the employer may read through the resume and hold a job interview for the candidate, for the most suitable position. Again, one can do away with the objective statement while submitting their resume at a job fair. In such cases, a summary can replace the objective.
A summary is especially suitable for people who would like to be considered for more than one position within the same company. A summary is also useful for people who have extensive experience in a particular field, but are considering a career change.
