The salary of cardiac sonographers is on the rise, owing to the increasing demand for cardiac sonography. This article includes some facts and figures regarding the remuneration received by them.

Job Description

A cardiac sonographer, also referred to as a cardiac ultrasound technologist or an echocardiographer, is a medical professional who is responsible for operating advanced ultrasound systems for helping clinical staff to view the condition of the patient’s heart. Their main function is to record the details of the heart, such as the movements, the functioning of the heart valves, rate of blood flow, and other information required for diagnosing the health complication. However, they are not required to diagnose or treat the patient, they simply have to hand over the matter to the diagnosticians for further assessment.

Salary Range

As in any other hospital job in the health care industry, the pay depends on factors such as the facility of employment, experience, and state. Those with no or up to one year’s experience can expect a pay ranging from USD 31,000 to USD 50,000 per year. Cardiac sonographers with one to four years of experience can earn a yearly remuneration of USD 39,000 to USD 56,000. If the overall experience ranges from five to nine years, you can draw a per annum pay of approximately USD 46,000 to USD 63,000.

Those with a considerable 10 to 19 years of experience in the cardiac sonography field can demand anywhere from USD 49,000 to USD 81,000. Similarly, the salary scope keeps on increasing with experience. There is not much difference between the pay of cardiac sonographers providing services in private medical facilities and public hospitals. In both medical settings, the remuneration range is the same, ranging from somewhere about USD 43,000 to USD 62,000.

Atlanta and New York City offer a yearly pay of USD 45,000 to USD 60,000 and USD 30,000 to USD 49,000 respectively. Due to the diagnostic duties to be performed, the starting pay of diagnostic cardiac sonographers is USD 48,000, whereas, their median salary is recorded to be somewhere around USD 64,000.

Note that diagnostic cardiac sonographers earn slightly more, due to further diagnostic tasks. The aforementioned salary ranges are estimated figures and are subject to change over time, depending on several factors.
