You will agree with me when I say that the first step at getting a job is because an employer was impressed by your resume. This doesn't mean you have to do any extraordinary or over the top things in life to get noticed. What you need is the right guidelines and proper formatting of your resume so that you can catch the eye of the employers in a short amount of time. Employers, or in this case schools, don't really have enough time to go over the entire resume or like to read paragraphs after paragraphs about your achievements in the past. The main thing they are searching for is how you, an art teacher, can be an integral part of the school. So to tilt the scale in your favor and help you format an effective resume, we have put this article together. We will not only go over the resume sample but will also see some guidelines that should be administered while writing a resume.

Guidelines for Writing an Art Teacher's Resume
  • First and foremost, know what you need to include in your resume. Your name, address, contact information, career objective, educational background, certifications, work experience, and special skills.
  • Choose a resume template that works for you. There are various formats you can select to present your resume in as there is no one format.
  • Use keywords like creative abilities, discipline, encouragement, admiration, inspiring, motivating, communicative, and interpersonal.
  • You can include some hobbies and personal interests in your resume. As you include them, you seem more of a fun and interesting person. That works really well for art teachers.
  • The educational information should be presented in a descending order and use bulleted points to highlight them. You can do the same with work experience and skills.
  • Also, letting the school know that how many students and classes you have and/or can handle is important. This way, you can be a suitable candidate for the job.
  • Always begin with a rough draft and then fill in the blanks. Emailing the first copy is a wrong move as there can be typos, errors, or change in format as you finish the resume.

Now that you have some idea as to what and how your resume should be like, we will go over how the resume can look like. As I mentioned earlier, you can choose from various resume templates (so you don't have to follow the one mentioned below).

Objective

In this section, you will talk about your career objective. What the school wants to know is if you are capable enough to handle the responsibilities of students and can art be a medium towards better learning. By highlighting the points as to how you and art can become a part of the school and students, try to send the message that you can offer individual support and positive encouragement to each student. Along with that, add that you can promote creativity and open-mindedness into each classroom, giving students an artistic medium to express themselves.

Qualification Summary

  • Bulleted points is a good idea here as you don't want them to keep reading line after line.
  • Begin with the most recent work experience.
  • Mention everything that can be relevant for this job position in question.
  • Also include here that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Educational Background

  • Listing your educational information in bulleted points is smart.
  • Begin with your master's degree; which university and year of graduation.
  • Next comes the bachelor's degree; which university and year of graduation.
Work Experience

  • List them in descending order, starting from the last job.
  • List name of the schools, responsibilities, what all you achieved.
  • Write a line below that if reference is required, you can send it across upon request.

"The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life."

William Faulkner

The guidelines provided for this resume can be used as a kindergarten, middle school, or even a high school art teacher resume. Just remember, your passion towards art is what needs to be highlighted in the resume. Everything else will follow suit.
